【明報專訊】HONG KONG people's scramble for toilet paper in supermarkets over the past two days has hit international headlines. Agence France-Presse (AFP) describes the panic buying in Hong Kong as "viral hysteria". Pictures are widely circulated on the internet showing all-empty racks in supermarkets, while some people have uploaded photos of their "spoils" — daily necessities such as toilet paper piled up high in their homes. Though a supermarket chain came out on Wednesday night to dispel the rumour and denied that some of its products were out of stock, the scramble continued to happen as of yesterday morning (February 6). The situation relaxed a bit only after a number of suppliers in Hong Kong said publicly that all kinds of food and daily necessities are in normal supply.
