Editorial : New land policies in Shenzhen
文章日期:2019年10月29日

【明報專訊】Last week the Shenzhen municipal government announced that it would impose limitations on the sale of land and require that developers who take part in land auctions should provide a certain proportion of affordable housing and low-rent housing. At the same time, the government has promised to supply one million units of affordable housing and low-rent housing. It remains to be seen whether such a move will check the rise in property prices. Nevertheless, it has sent a very clear signal — the government will not sit back and do nothing about the rocketing property prices. Shenzhen's heavy-handed tackling of property prices has been interpreted as a renunciation of Hong Kong's model of land policies. It is worth discussing whether this is the case. However, Hong Kong should think about to what extent our city can consider such measures by the Shenzhen government.
