【明報專訊】THE government has accepted the evaluation reports submitted by the MTR, meaning that the Hung Hom station extension of the Shatin-Central Link will be strengthened, as it will not be necessary to demolish the station and rebuild it. The evaluation reports were compiled based on the results of tests during which concrete was drilled open and steel bars were examined. The tests were monitored by independent experts in engineering. The team of professionals believe that the overall structure is safe and moderate strengthening work will be sufficient. However, the safety issue of Hung Hom station is still a thorn in the side of the public. It is necessary for the government to step up monitoring of the construction work to strengthen confidence in the station.
