Editorial : The Buddhist Association of China must strengthen its self-disciplinary mechanism
文章日期:2018年8月21日

【明報專訊】AFTER Shi Xuecheng, Chairman of the Buddhist Association of China, had been accused of sexual assault, the association held a meeting in which his resignation as chairman was accepted. It was reported that he had returned to his birthplace to "ponder over his mistakes". However, the practice of glossing over one's wrongdoings will not help to revive believers' confidence in the management of Buddhism. It is also uncertain whether it will be effective in improving habits and practices in Buddhism that the association advocates. The association should use the "scandal" as an opportunity to earnestly strengthen its self-regulatory mechanism and promulgate Buddha's teachings by going on the right path.
