Editorial : Central government should adjust its mindset and trust HK people

【明報專訊】THE NEW HKSAR government that has been sworn into office has stressed that, rather than rely on the Liaison Office to secure votes, its principal officials under the Accountability System will make their own efforts to persuade the Legislative Council to support the government's policies. The rise of the Hong Kong independence ideology has seriously undermined the central government's trust in Hong Kong. On the other hand, the fact that the central government has tightened its grip on Hong Kong, emphasised its "plenary powers" over the city and increasingly meddled in its specific affairs has made many Hong Kong people worried about the future. The future of "One country, two systems" hinges on strengthening mutual trust.
