【明報專訊】Long, long ago salt was so valuable that workers were paid wages or part of their wages in salt. In fact, our word salary is from the Latin word for salt. From that, someone worth his/her salt is very worthy - either because he or she has a good character or because he or she is a competent, loyal and valuable worker. "You're a good man Felix, you're worth your salt," the boss complimented him one day.
