【明報專訊】CIVIC PARTY candidate Alvin Yeung Ngok-kiu's victory in the Legislative Council by-election came as no surprise as the New Territories East geographical constituency has always been a pan-democratic stronghold. However, localist candidate Edward Leung Tin-kei, who advocates violence and openly declares his support for an independent Hong Kong, won more than 60,000 votes, or about 15 per cent of the vote, which not only is a telling sign of the meteoric rise of localist groups in the political arena, but also carries implications of profound import.
