The City Wanderer : The Affordable Old Master Q

【明報專訊】Among the many possessions a child can desire, comic books are perhaps one of the least expensive, and therefore, most welcomed by parents. Before long, the humble stack of comics will grow into a mini-library. A flicker of interest turns into a lifelong collection that takes all the available support to sustain. That is how my American friend and I ended up at Sino Center (信和中心) in Mong Kok - to find the right local comic strip (連載漫畫) to join his brother's impressive array of global comics. Sino Center is a curious place, a treasure-land for fanatics of different sorts - old comics, CD's, Japanese gadgets, marginal porn - you name it. An absolute outsider of comics, I sheepishly suggested Old Master Q (老夫子) to my friend - a proposal warmly supported by the bookshop owner, buried behind piles of second hand magazines and barely to be seen. Once a source of daily entertainment, the books now lie quietly awaiting the next treasure hunter who finds particular interest in them.
