【明報專訊】ON 25 October seventy years ago, Chen Yi, a general representing the Republic of China, received the instrument of surrender from Rikichi Ando, the Japanese Governor-General of Taiwan, in the Taipei City Hall (now named Zhongshan Hall). This marked Taiwan's return to Chinese sovereignty. This year, the governments across the Taiwan Strait have held events commemorating the recovery of Taiwan in a high-profile manner. It seems that the governments have at last given up the fight for the "exclusive right" to commemorate the recovery.
