Idiom Magic:若憑空設想 可使願望成真 If "ifs" and "ands" were pots and pans
文章日期:2015年10月5日

【明報專訊】This proverb is from an old nursery rhyme (童謠): "If 'ifs' and 'ands' were pots and pans, there'd be no work for tinkers." A tinker (補鍋匠) is someone who mends broken pots and pans, and the meaning behind this is that if we could make wishes come true, our lives would be free of problems. "If 'ifs' and 'ands' were pots and pans I'd be a rich man tomorrow," Hawke sighed. "And I would get excellent grades without studying," Dion added.
