【明報專訊】THE ISSUE OF the Occupy movement is complicated by the fact that there has been no organisation whose leadership is universally acknowledged, and that the demands of the protesters do not necessarily coincide. All this has also made it difficult to resolve the situation. Hong Kong people have always wavered between idealism and realism in their quest for democracy. Now, as evidenced by the storm of street protests, their political passions are running high. In spite of this, however, a recent survey conducted by the CUHK Centre for Communication and Public Opinion Survey shows that respondents' attitudes towards the Occupy movement and the issue of constitutional reform still oscillate between idealism and realism. We are convinced that, as Hong Kong's safety is at stake in the Occupy movement, its organisers, stakeholders and participants should refer to the findings of the CUHK survey when deciding their next move.
