They stuck to their own guns

【明報專訊】IN THE FIRST EVER DIALOGUE on constitutional reform between them, the government and the Hong Kong Federation of Students (HKFS) stuck to their own guns and stated their respective positions. That gap between them has neither narrowed nor widened. Those who expected the first round of their dialogue would lead to remarkable progress may be a little lost. However, during the dialogue, the government made four points in general response and put forward three ways of democratising the nomination committee's (NC's) processes. These are new ideas. Students and others may read them differently, but it is the government's view that it has displayed its sincerity and those are the most it can possibly do to increase democracy by exercising its constitutional powers and fulfilling its constitutional duties. Demonstrators at the three occupied locations have reacted rather negatively to the first round of government-HKFS dialogue. Evidently, the Occupy movement is unlikely to end soon.
