【明報專訊】IN THE PAST TWO DAYS the police took action to clear obstacles placed by protesters. Traffic has largely returned to normal on Hong Kong Island. It is not yet certain whether the occupation will end in violence or bloodshed. However, what has happened is such that one may give a sigh of relief. A situation may ease if one takes it in one's stride. It is hoped that the government and the police will adhere to such a strategy and deal with the occupation step by step. The authorities ought to do their best to see that the incident will end peacefully. Furthermore, it is clear from what has happened that maskers' assaults on occupiers would only provoke strong reactions and lead to conflicts. They would worsen the situation instead of easing it. As things are calming down, it is unsurpassed folly to rely on maskers to "help" clear the occupied locations.
