【明報專訊】看看這四個英文字： "though"、"thought"、"through"、"thorough"，串法都只是一個字母之差異，但意思卻截然不同。 "Though" 是連接詞，解作「雖然」：Though they have gathered many signatures, some critics suspect they are fake ones.（他們雖然收集了很多簽名，有評論員懷疑是造假的。）"Thought" 是動詞 "think" 的過去式：They thought they could fool us, but Hong Kong citizens are not that easily conned.（他們以為可以愚弄我們，但是香港市民並非那麼容易上當的。）"Through" 則是介詞或副詞，有多種解釋：They should allow independent judges to go through all the signatures, looking for evidence of fraud.（他們應該讓獨立的裁判查找欺騙作弊的證據。）而 "thorough" 是形容詞，意指「徹底的」，例：That man is a thorough nuisance.（那男人討厭至極。）
