【明報專訊】HUNDREDS of thousands of people turned out for the unofficial Occupy Central referendum. As the constitutional reform plans selected for the vote all involved some form of public nomination, the Occupy Central organisers and most other pan-democrats have come to the conclusion that public nomination is what the voters want. However, one cannot but wonder whether the results would have been different if the plans put forward by moderate democrats had also been included as possible choices. Now that the constitutional reform process is still in progress, the detrimental effects of the vote may yet be reduced if the authorities and the public are willing to correct their mistakes and courageously adjust their positions.
