【明報專訊】FOR TWO DAYS consecutively, service on the East Rail was completely suspended for some time because of a breakdown in the data transmission system. Terry Wong Wing-kin, deputy general manager of infrastructure implementation at the MTR, said the problem lay in the transmission system, but he could not identify the cause of the problem, and had to ask the Australian supplier to send post-haste an expert to Hong Kong to find out. Explaining the state of things on a radio programme yesterday (April 28), Wong said that, pending the repair of the primary system, the back-up system is responsible for the transmission of signals. In other words, we can only pray that the back-up system remains in order until the primary system is fixed, or East Rail services will be suspended, and the daily lives of the residents in New Territories East will be seriously disrupted.
