民主訴求積累三十載 佔中壓力宜疏不宜堵

【明報專訊】LAST WEDNESDAY (February 5) Central saw a ceremony at which forty-five members of the Democratic Party vowed they would go all out to take part in the Occupy Central campaign unless Hong Kong people were to elect their Chief Executive (CE) by universal suffrage as the Central People's Government (CPG) had promised them. The Democrats are moderates in the pro-democracy camp. It was thanks to the party's position that the last constitutional reform package went through the Legislative Council (Legco). No sooner had the constitutional reform consultation begun than the party declared it would be in the vanguard of the Occupy Central campaign, thereby expressing its objections to any screening in the nomination stage. This shows it will be even harder for the SAR government and the CPG to win moderate democrats' support in this constitutional reform than in the last.
