【明報專訊】A horselaugh can be a loud, unrestrained (控制不住的) laugh, or it can be a bad joke. Sometimes it is written as one word (horselaugh) and sometimes it is written as two words (horse laugh). Horses don't actually laugh, of course, but if they did they would probably laugh very loud. At least that is what this idiom assumes. "Everyone horselaughed when Thomas came to work dressed like Charlie Chaplin." (Loud, unrestrained laughter.) "That rumour about our getting paid holidays is a horse laugh," Shirley said. "I simply don't believe it!"
