【明報專訊】THIS YEAR'S July 1 protest marchers numbered, according to the Civil Human Rights Front (CHRF), 430,000, while the figures given by Paul Yip Siu-fai, Professor of Social Work and Social Administration at Hong Kong University, and Robert Chung Ting-yiu, Hong Kong University's Director of the Public Opinion Programme, were 103,000 and 93,000 respectively, and the police put the number of protesters at the height of the march at 66,000. Clearly, the figures announced by the two academics are quite close to each other, and the police estimate is a bit on the low side. The CHRF's figure, which is about 6.5 times as much as that of the police, is obviously the highest, but again it is found to be dubious.
