【明報專訊】LIU XIA, whose husband Liu Xiaobo won a Nobel Peace Prize and who had not been in the public eye for more than two years, has "suddenly" had an opportunity to meet Associated Press journalists. During the brief interview, she talked about her life in house confinement. It is of special significance for her to have appeared when Mo Yan is about to receive his Nobel Literature Prize in Sweden. Both Mo Yan and Liu Xiaobo are Nobel laureates. Mo Yan now lives in glory, but Liu Xiaobo and Liu Xia are in endless misery. None that has a conscience can understand or accept such a huge contrast. Chinese leaders keep talking glibly about running the country by law. The Chinese government must therefore tell the world under what laws it has placed Liu Xia under house arrest.
