【明報專訊】THE COLLISION off Lamma Island between the Hongkong Electric boat Lamma IV and a Hong Kong and Kowloon Ferry catamaran has so far led to 38 confirmed deaths, while four passengers are still in critical or serious condition. The police are examining criminal liabilities. At the same time, the government is to set up at the highest level a commission of inquiry to look into the case within its context. It is hoped that these investigations, carried out at different levels, will do justice to the dead, and more importantly find out the causes of the disaster, so that improvements may be made to the related regulations and procedures, making Hong Kong's waters safer for maritime traffic.
