【明報專訊】1960 年代跳扭腰舞（twist and dance）在美國十分流行。1961年美國聯邦儲備局推行一項新的貨幣政策，無以名之，唯有叫它作 "Operation Twist"。去年9月和今年6月聯邦儲備局都再度實行 Operation Twist。那到底什麼是 Operation Twist 呢？這其實是 "a plan to purchase billions of US dollars of bonds with long maturities and to sell bonds with short maturities"，用意是 "to flatten the yield curve in order to promote investment". Operation Twist 即聯邦儲備局出售持有的較短期的美國國債，同時買入較長期的美國國債。通過買入長期國債，推低長期利率和推低與長期利率掛鈎的貸款利率，包括樓宇按揭和汽車貸款，以鼓勵投資和消費。

Twist a fine story 是「編造一個巧妙的故事」。Jo Jo twisted her way through the crowd 是 「Jo Jo 彎彎曲曲地在人群中穿插過去」。Daisy twists me round her (little) finger 則是指「 Daisy任意驅使或擺弄我」。最後，Twists and turns解作「迂迴曲折」。
