【明報專訊】LEUNG KA-WING stepped down as Asia Television's (ATV's) senior vice-president of news and public affairs for personal reasons on September 5. In reporting his departure, ATV news people called him "the journalistic profession's conscience". That is the highest praise any journalist can ever hope to get. At a meeting of the Legislative Council Panel on Information Technology and Broadcasting yesterday, he talked about his resignation, which is supposed to be consequent upon the erroneous story of Jiang Zemin's death. We wonder what ATV news people think of what he said yesterday. For our part, the "journalistic profession's conscience" laurels may have been lightly placed. Has there been any fond misunderstanding? Has any person wilfully misled others?
