【明報專訊】MANY CITIZENS think the Fire Services Department (FSD) and the police are always praised for their professionalism and efficiency. However, judging by what was revealed at the inquest into the death of senior fireman Yeung Chun-kit (who died in the line of duty in a blaze at Lai Cheong Factory Building, Cheung Sha Wan), the FSD's equipment can be described as scanty, and the way it operates, incomprehensible. A citizen who peruses what was disclosed at the inquest may realise firemen's equipment may not protect them and the FSD's command communication system may not keep firemen out of danger. If firemen cannot even keep themselves safe, how can they effectively fight fire and save life and limb?
