【明報專訊】THERE ARE now 950 kindergartens in Hong Kong. According to the Education Bureau's Profile of Kindergartens and Kindergarten- cum-Child Care Centres, 783 of them each paid rent equivalent to 14% of their tuition incomes and Pre-primary Education Voucher Scheme (PEVS) subsidies in the 2008-09 school year. Rent accounted for more than 20% of the total cost of about 20% of the 783. The percentage exceeded 50% or even 70% in some cases. There is reason to believe kindergartens now find their rent even more burdensome.
