【明報專訊】In olden days a ramrod (推彈桿) was a metal shaft used to shove powder (火藥) and things into rifles (步槍). They were stiff and straight, giving us this idiom. It describes someone who is standing or sitting stiff and rigid. "Seeing a strange object across the room, Harry stood stiff as a ramrod looking at it."
