【明報專訊】THE government work report Premier Wen Jiabao delivered at this year's National People's Congress session last March is the first to include the word "dignity". Wen Jiabao said the government should see that people would live more happily and with greater dignity. Last Sunday, when he dialogued with listeners in a radio programme, he described four conditions for people's dignified lives. First, the government should ensure that all enjoy the freedoms and rights they have under the constitution and by law. Second, it should ensure that all are perfectly equal, especially before the law, regardless of occupation, wealth or ethnicity. Third, it should see that the underprivileged live with dignity. Fourth, wrongdoers' and offenders' human dignity should be respected so that they can turn over a new leaf.
