【明報專訊】AT a Legislative Council public hearing, cyclist Wong Kam-po (who has won gold medals at Asiads) made a moving speech to persuade legislators to support Hong Kong's potential bid to host the 2023 Asian Games. Last Wednesday, at a function to celebrate Hong Kong athletes' victories at the Guangzhou Asiad, Chief Executive Donald Tsang said emphatically the $6 billion the Asiad would cost Hong Kong was not a very large amount of money because it would be spent not in one year but in the twelve years between now and 2023. He said Hong Kong would spend in the same period over $2 trillion on education, healthcare and welfare, and $6 billion was hardly much in comparison. His argument is questionable.
