【明報專訊】FORMER Liberal Party chairman James Tien has suggested that the government use part of the income from the SAR's foreign exchange reserves to alleviate poverty. If his view represents the business sector's, it indicates Hong Kong's political environment is on the verge of profound change. It has been a "monopoly" of politicians who put getting votes first to ask the government to provide relief. If business people also vie for the banner of speaking for the people, how will Hong Kong's political ecology change? This is worth attention. Furthermore, if James Tien's change shows business people have finally come to realise they will no longer enjoy political free lunches and, to safeguard their interests, they must try to increase their political influence through fair participation, Hong Kong's political situation will become radically different.
