【明報專訊】IN the US, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has charged Goldman Sachs Group Inc and Fabrice Tourre (one of its vice presidents) with fraud in a civil lawsuit. The US law-enforcement agency has taken action against the biggest investment bank in the world. The outcome of the litigation would very much matter to both. Since the financial tsunami devastated the world, governments have tended to try harder to regulate financial institutions. The outcome of the case would have profound repercussions in the financial world. No spectacle like the SEC-Goldman case has happened here. However, it should inspire Hong Kong to improve its financial infrastructure by having more effective regulation.
