【明報專訊】A bumper ( 保險槓) on a car is a metal or plastic part on the front and back that absorbs shock when struck. That's not the one referred to here, however. This bumper is an old word meaning very full or very large. From that, a bumper crop is a harvest that is unusually productive or large.
