【明報專訊】HONG KONGERS were lukewarm about the East Asian Games (EAG) when it was about to open. However, because indomitable Hong Kong athletes won a record number of gold medals and Hong Kong's soccer team miraculously grabbed a gold, it brought citizens a pleasant week. Now it has closed, whether Hong Kong should bid for the 2019 Asian Games will be put on the agenda. Hong Kong athletes did well at the EAG. They have doubtless risen in the public's estimation. However, the authorities must not be so intoxicated with the success as to act rashly. They should review their successes and failures in hosting the EAG and carefully weigh the pros and cons of bidding for the Asian Games. Only after they have given the matter further thought should they come to a decision.
