Protesters Must Respect Others' Rights
抗議之聲無傷大雅 搗亂行為應予譴責

【明報專訊】YESTERDAY at the Chinese University of Hong Kong's (CUHK's) graduation ceremony Chief Secretary for Administration Henry Tang received an honorary doctorate. Several outsiders (citizens and former CHUK students) went up to the stage and staged a protest there. That interrupted the ceremony for five minutes. Does Henry Tang deserve an honorary doctorate? Do universities fawn on powerful people when they confer honorary degrees on them? People differ about such questions. Dissidents are free to protest. However, protesters must respect others. It is disrespectful to run up to the stage during a graduation ceremony and disrupt it. To do so would deprive guests, graduates and their parents of their right to have a solemn ceremony. Such behaviour is unacceptable and must not be condoned.
