【明報專訊】GUANGDONG has been affected by a worsening drought. Fields there are parched. As water keeps coming to Hong Kong from Dongjiang and its reservoirs are 80% full, we fear no shortage of water. However, since a severe drought has afflicted Guangdong, which supplies Hong Kong with water, the government will announce the SAR will receive less water or stop receiving it temporarily from Guangdong to help the province to fight the drought. It is time Hong Kong displayed its spirit of pulling together in times of trouble. However, many citizens are unaware of the need to cut water consumption. The government should formulate a long-term strategy. Not only should it urge people to use less water, but it should also urge Guangdong and the cities along Dongjiang to work together to protect the tributary. The SAR should work on a higher level to help tackle the imminent shortage of water resources.
