【明報專訊】IN Taiwan, a typhoon has toppled the Liu Chao-shiuan cabinet and done away with the myth of President Ma Ying-jeou's popularity. Mr Ma has reorganised the Executive Yuan not only to allay popular anger at his administration's tardy victim relief efforts but also to save himself and the Kuomintang (KMT). Whether he will regain his prestige and keep the KMT in power depends on whether Taiwan will come out of economic difficulty. However, how well Taiwan's economy will fare depends on how good cross-strait relations are. Therefore, whether the KMT can turn the tide under Mr Ma's leadership depends very much on how cross-strait relations will develop.
