【明報專訊】SCHOOLS have fallen to drugs. The government wants to win the war against drug abuse. Yesterday the first shot of it was fired. Voluntary student drug testing will be introduced next school year. Students in participating schools will take drug tests on a voluntary basis. The purpose of drug-testing students is to identify drug users and give them rehab counselling so that they can free themselves from the clutches of drugs. Whether the plan will succeed hinges on whether society is determined to win the war against drug abuse. In our view, schools that have the courage to participate in it will be winners because their courage to bring their problems to light and deal with them will win them society's understanding and support. Their reputation will grow sharply rather than suffer.
