【明報專訊】One of my favourite writers is Jonathan Liew who writes about sports for the Guardian. There is an article that has impressed itself particularly deeply on my memory. Published on the eve of the Euro 2020 tournament, it was a piece in which he enthused about his support for the England football team. But what has made this article so memorable for me is not so much his declaration of love for the Three Lions as this proclamation: England is a terrible country with a terrible past and a terrible future. He recounted one particular episode, in which someone shouted to him when he was taking his daughter to nursery, ''Fxxk off Chinaman, and take your Covid patient with you.''
