【明報專訊】VICE-CHANCELLOR AND PRESIDENT of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Rocky Tuan Sung-chi has resigned, prematurely ending his term next January. Tuan has been caught in political cross hairs for some time. Some people have strong opinions about his performance in the 2019 anti-amendment saga. Over the past year, many disputes surrounding the university — from the restructuring of CUHK's governing council to the dismissal of vice-president Ng Shu-pui — have been regarded by many as actions targeting Tuan. It is never desirable to politicise a campus. During the 2019 anti-amendment saga, CUHK was labelled as the "rioters' university", and for a while, the situation got out of control. Although the clashes caused harm to the university, using political pressure instead of conducting a thorough investigation to hold responsible parties accountable is equally bad for the university and Hong Kong.
