【明報專訊】THE GOVERNMENT and the two power companies have announced next year's electricity tariffs and the results of the midterm review of the Scheme of Control Agreements (SCAs). The reduction in ''net tariffs'' next year seems like good news, but in reality, both companies have increased the ''basic tariff'' by an amount that outpaces the inflation rate. The decrease in net tariff is only due to the recent drop in international fuel prices to a level far below that at the start of the year. If the energy prices rebound next year, the fuel costs paid by citizens will rise again at any time.
