As one of the oldest public housing estates in the city, Choi Hung Estate was once regarded as a model for public housing and was often visited by foreign dignitaries in the early years. To this day, its colorful design still attracts many eager tourists who come to "check in" at the Instagram hotspot. However, after 60 years, the buildings in Choi Hung Estate have aged, with problems like concrete spalling and water seepage emerging repeatedly. The annual maintenance costs are huge. It is certainly more cost-effective and reasonable to completely redevelop the estate and rehouse the residents as soon as possible.
