【明報專訊】MASS KILLINGS have flared up between Israel and Palestinians again. To retaliate against the surprise assault by the Palestinian militant group Hamas, the Israeli military has imposed a total blockade on the Gaza Strip, and a massive attack is looming. The relationship between Israel and Palestine is that of an occupier-occupied one. The only way to achieve peaceful coexistence is to implement the "two-state solution", which is also advocated by the United Nations (UN) in a resolution. The US's efforts in recent years to encourage Arab countries to establish diplomatic relations with Israel have, in effect, marginalised the Palestinian issue. The killings between Israel and Palestinians will only become more and more bloody. To avoid any more massacres of civilians, it is an urgent task for the international community to mediate and facilitate peace talks between the two sides.
