【明報專訊】A chronically ill woman was found unconscious in the toilet of the Accident and Emergency (A&E) department of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital the other day. She passed away later. With this case included, at least four patients have died during A&E waits in the past three years. Hong Kong's public healthcare system is riddled with problems of all sorts. It is both a symptom and a warning to have patients waiting till death without anyone noticing in an A&E. The government must speed up building large hospitals and replenish healthcare staffing levels. It should also waste no time in pressing ahead with the development of primary healthcare so it will divert more patients [from A&Es].
