【明報專訊】Crostini, a bakery chain with more than ten branches, has recently announced the closure of its entire line of shops. This has come as a piece of sudden news to its customers, employees and suppliers of its raw materials alike. The Consumer Council and the Customs and Excise Department have received at least 11 complaints, while a trade union estimates that more than 100 employees were owed $3 million altogether in unpaid salaries. One supplier of raw materials has also said that it did not expect its business partner which used to pay its bills in a normal manner would close down suddenly, worried that it would not be able to recover the arrears. There are hundreds of customers who still have the store's cake coupons, many of whom are people about to get married. They just purchased them in bulk at a "discounted price" in recent months. Now these coupons have become worthless. Many people suspect that the shop was trying to defraud them deliberately and have vowed to recover their losses.
