【明報專訊】Students in the city will start the new school year in droves tomorrow (1 September) amid a resurgence of Covid-19 infections. The Education Bureau (EDB) has tightened the anti-epidemic requirements for the new school year in a guideline issued to all Hong Kong secondary and primary schools. Given the recent upsurge of cases in Hong Kong, it is only a matter of time before new cases of infection surpass 10,000 daily. No one wants students' school lives and studies to be seriously hampered by the pandemic again. The government, schools and parents should work together so that students can go to school as usual under manageable risks. The "third jab rate" of secondary school students is still unsatisfactory. The raising of the vaccination threshold for full-day in-person classes by the authorities in line with the three-dose requirement under the Vaccine Pass scheme can have the effect of boosting the vaccination rate. Apart from providing better health protection for students and teachers, this will also help strengthen the city's anti-epidemic barriers further. Parents should actively encourage their children to receive the third dose.
