【明報專訊】Chinese State Councillor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi held talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Indonesia the day before yesterday (9 July). The meeting lasted a staggering five hours. Afterwards, both sides described the dialogue as "substantive" and "constructive", but they did not reach a consensus on major issues. Recently, high-ranking officials from China and the US have met frequently, and it is rumoured that US President Joe Biden will lift some of the tariffs imposed on goods imported from China, sparking speculation that Sino-US relations might ease. However, judging from the international situation, the domestic political environment in the US and the series of actions by the US, there is no basis for a substantial improvement in Sino-US relations.
