【明報專訊】The wave of hostility and even hate crimes against the Asian community in some western countries since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has made many rethink just how welcome Asians are in those countries. Over the years, I have noticed writings that I would roughly characterise as speaking about some kind of ''cultural unconscious'', perhaps unintended or half-intended cultural portrayals that have somehow allowed biases to seep into ordinary life. One type of commentary is about written typefaces and their relationship with race and ethnicity.
