Editorial : Balancing Mandatory Use of LeaveHomeSafe and Leniency
文章日期:2021年11月4日

【明報專訊】THE mandatory use of the LeaveHomeSafe app for entering government premises was enforced smoothly in general on the first two days. Still, there are some technical problems that need to be addressed. The government should show more leniency and support to the elderly and disadvantaged who have difficulty using the mobile app. If we look around the globe, it can be noticed that compulsory measures are inevitable in order to restore normality amid the pandemic. At this stage, there are no reasons or needs for Hong Kong to opt for the "coexistence with Covid" strategy. To continue to fight the pandemic by strengthening our defences and depriving the virus of the room to spread, virus-tracing should no longer be implemented in a half-baked manner. The use of paper forms is problematic in many ways, so it should be phased out. It should be an option only in emergencies or when people with special needs need to use it. As the public gradually gets used to using the LeaveHomeSafe app for entering government premises, the scope of its application can be extended so that more venues are covered in the next stage.
