【明報專訊】Last week, a US State Department spokesperson presented the country's stance on the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, which was interpreted by some media as the US contemplating a joint boycott with its allies of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. The US later clarified hastily that they had not discussed the matter. In spite of this, however, some Western politicians and organisations have taken advantage of the situations in Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong to call for a boycott of the Games, and the pressure they exert will only grow stronger in the coming year or so. Political interference in the Olympics has never been interrupted over the past half century. China should maintain its original intention of hosting the Winter Olympics, which is to increase the popularity of winter sports and to enhance the physical health of its people.
