【明報專訊】The third day of Chinese New Year, also known as the "Scarlet Dog Day" (赤狗日), is said to be cursed by the God of Anger. People slip into unintentional arguments, spoiling the cacophonic harmony built over the start of Chinese New Year. This year, however, the fury is counterbalanced by the annual commercial showcase of love—Valentine's Day. Businesses were quick to exploit its effect, claiming that any anger can be tamed by a sprinkle of love. On the outer islands like Cheung Chau and Mui Wo, street hawkers near the pier went as far as juxtaposing mochi (麻糬) snacks, congee and deep fried vegetables with roses, hoping that the unusual combo would bless islanders and tourists alike while bringing them a handsome income at the start of the year of the Ox.
