Editorial : Breaking the vicious cycle of Covid battle
文章日期:2020年8月27日

【明報專訊】THE GOVERNMENT is to relax its anti-pandemic measures this Friday. Restrictions such as the nighttime dine-in ban in restaurants and mandatory mask-wearing while exercising outdoors are to be lifted. The pandemic has shown signs of easing, as the daily number of cases has dropped below 20. Slightly relaxing the anti-pandemic measures could reduce response fatigue and the strain on people's livelihood. However, the number of cases with unknown sources is still high, which shows that there are still asymptomatic patients in the community waiting to be tracked down by the universal virus testing. The public have to stay vigilant and should not let their guard down. Amid the pandemic, Hong Kong has tightened anti-pandemic measures thrice and loosened them twice. Now that it has loosened them again, it remains uncertain whether it could escape the vicious cycle of economic reopening and the recurrence of outbreaks.
